Award-Winning design.

Architect, David Salmela

Millwork, Architectural Elements of Michigan

Nestled in the woods on a quiet lake, this home is comprised of many buildings. The home itself is a simple rectangle surrounded by small garages and studios, a sauna building, an outdoor fireplace and a gazebo-like structure with a “grasshopper” roof.  The compound is strikingly minimalist, and highly detailed.  It is a great example of the complexity of simplicity and the demand for fine craftsmanship to build it.

“James Anderson Builders has recently finished building an award winning house for us that was designed by internationally acclaimed architect David Salmela. Throughout the five-year design and construction process, Jim Anderson provided outstanding advice and construction expertise. He is a man of his word and we could always count on him to follow through as he promised. His staff, crew, and subcontractors were all professional craftsmen of the highest order who took great pride in their work. They executed the design and added their own creativity to the construction of the house, cabinetry and furniture. We are enormously pleased with our completed project and thank Jim Anderson and all the people at James Anderson Builders who helped make the project such a success.”

Salmela’s design is the recipient of the Minnesota AIA award in 2009 and the Residential Architects magazine Design Award in 2010.
